Sportfishing - Scup

Scup are better known as Porgies in many areas. These are a tasty fish although they are boney. They are especially sought by some ethnic groups, but sought by all for their good eating.

Scup - Porgy

Scup or Porgy, are small sportfish, just 8-16 inches long. They rarely weigh more than 3 pounds. Coloration is silver-grey with a tinge of yellow. There are usually four large but faint black verticle strips on the body. The long dorsal fin can be flattened entirely, providing a different look. The pectoral fins are unusually pointed. These fish are found inshore during the summer near rocky coasts, feeding near the bottom. They move offshore during the winter.
